Seasons of the Heart by Lois Duncan
My review
rating: 3 of 5 stars
I devoured Lois Duncan's YA novels when I was a teenager and have always considered her to be one of my favorite writers, so I was delighted to discover this collection of poems. Duncan has arranged poetry that she wrote at various times in her life into 5 seasons - Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and a "Second Spring." Each season of her life is prefaced with a brief biographical essay that sets the context for the selections to follow.
Some of the poems were very familiar, so I know I've encountered them before (a few have been previously published elsewhere). They were no less enjoyable the second time around and it was illuminating to read them together in progression as a life story.
This was a very enjoyable read!
